Scriptures to Bring You Comfort

No matter what struggles you may be going through, we encourage you to read these words of comfort over yourself from our Lord. Meditate on these scriptures to remind yourself who our Comforter is. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He promises to never leave you! We pray these scriptures bring you comfort.

God is Our Comforter

Job 5:11 (AMP)

So that He sets on high those who are lowly, and He lifts to safety those who mourn.

Psalm 147:3 (AMP)

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds [healing their pain and comforting their sorrow].

John 14:16-17 (AMP)

And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby), to be with you forever— the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive [and take to its heart] because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit) remains with you continually and will be in you.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5 (AMP)

Blessed [gratefully praised and adored] be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts and encourages us in every trouble so that we will be able to comfort and encourage those who are in any kind of trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For just as Christ’s sufferings are ours in abundance [as they overflow to His followers], so also our comfort [our reassurance, our encouragement, our consolation] is abundant through Christ [it is truly more than enough to endure what we must].

God is There for Us

Psalm 116:1-2 (AMP)

I love the Lord, because He hears [and continues to hear] my voice and my supplications (my pleas, my cries, my specific needs). Because He has inclined His ear to me, therefore I will call on Him as long as I live.

Romans 8:28 (AMP)

And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.

John 14:18 (AMP)

“I will not leave you as orphans [comfortless, bereaved, and helpless]; I will come [back] to you."

Instructions on Comfort

Matthew 11:28-30 (AMP)

“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavily burdened [by religious rituals that provide no peace], and I will give you rest [refreshing your souls with salvation]. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me [following Me as My disciple], for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest (renewal, blessed quiet) for your souls. For My yoke is easy [to bear] and My burden is light."

John 14:1 (AMP)

“Do not let your heart be troubled (afraid, cowardly). Believe [confidently] in God and trust in Him, [have faith, hold on to it, rely on it, keep going and] believe also in Me."

Isaiah 35:3 (AMP)

Encourage the exhausted, and make staggering knees firm.

2 Corinthians 13:11 (AMP)

Finally, believers, rejoice! Be made complete [be what you should be], be comforted, be like-minded, live in peace [enjoy the spiritual well-being experienced by believers who walk closely with God]; and the God of love and peace [the source of lovingkindness] will be with you.

Philippians 2:1-3 (AMP)

Therefore if there is any encouragement and comfort in Christ [as there certainly is in abundance], if there is any consolation of love, if there is any fellowship [that we share] in the Spirit, if [there is] any [great depth of] affection and compassion, make my joy complete by being of the same mind, having the same love [toward one another], knit together in spirit, intent on one purpose [and living a life that reflects your faith and spreads the gospel—the good news regarding salvation through faith in Christ]. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit [through factional motives, or strife], but with [an attitude of] humility [being neither arrogant nor self-righteous], regard others as more important than yourselves.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 (AMP)

Therefore encourage and comfort one another and build up one another, just as you are doing.
