Scriptures to Bring You Joy - Part 2

Joy is not a brief feeling, nor is it based on our circumstances. While there are many things in our lives that can make us happy, the Bible tells us that the source of true joy is Jesus. Through Him, we can overcome difficult seasons in our life while sustaining our joy. We pray that these scriptures are a blessing to you!

Joy Found in God

Matthew 5:9 (AMP)

“Blessed [spiritually calm with life-joy in God’s favor] are the makers and maintainers of peace, for they will [express His character and] be called the sons of God."

Matthew 11:6 (AMP)

"And blessed [joyful, favored by God] is he who does not take offense at Me [accepting Me as the Messiah and trusting confidently in My message of salvation].”

Luke 6:21 (AMP)

Blessed [joyful, nourished by God’s goodness] are you who hunger now [for righteousness, actively seeking right standing with God], for you will be [completely] satisfied. Blessed [forgiven, refreshed by God’s grace] are you who weep now [over your sins and repent], for you will laugh [when the burden of sin is lifted].

John 16:33 (AMP)

"I have told you these things, so that in Me you may have [perfect] peace. In the world you have tribulation and distress and suffering, but be courageous [be confident, be undaunted, be filled with joy]; I have overcome the world.” [My conquest is accomplished, My victory abiding.]

Romans 5:1 (AMP)

Therefore, since we have been justified [that is, acquitted of sin, declared blameless before God] by faith, [let us grasp the fact that] we have peace with God [and the joy of reconciliation with Him] through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed).

Romans 8:15 (AMP)

For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading again to fear [of God’s judgment], but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons [the Spirit producing sonship] by which we [joyfully] cry, “Abba! Father!”

Philippians 3:8 (AMP)

But more than that, I count everything as loss compared to the priceless privilege and supreme advantage of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord [and of growing more deeply and thoroughly acquainted with Him—a joy unequaled]. For His sake I have lost everything, and I consider it all garbage, so that I may gain Christ,

1 Peter 4:14 (AMP)

If you are insulted and reviled for [bearing] the name of Christ, you are blessed [happy, with life-joy and comfort in God’s salvation regardless of your circumstances], because the Spirit of glory and of God is resting on you [and indwelling you—He whom they curse, you glorify].

Prayers for Joy

Psalm 51:8 (AMP)

Make me hear joy and gladness and be satisfied; let the bones which You have broken rejoice.

Psalm 51:12 (AMP)

Restore to me the joy of Your salvation and sustain me with a willing spirit.

Romans 15:13 (AMP)

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you will abound in hope and overflow with confidence in His promises.

Colossians 1:11 (AMP)

[we pray that you may be] strengthened and invigorated with all power, according to His glorious might, to attain every kind of endurance and patience with joy;

Instructions on Joy

Psalm 32:11 (AMP)

Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous [who actively seek right standing with Him]; Shout for joy, all you upright in heart.

Psalm 35:27 (AMP)

Let them shout for joy and rejoice, who favor my vindication and want what is right for me; let them say continually, “Let the Lord be magnified, who delights and takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servant.”

Psalm 100:2 (AMP)

Serve the Lord with gladness and delight; come before His presence with joyful singing.

Ecclesiastes 7:14 (AMP)

In the day of prosperity be joyful, but in the day of adversity consider that God has made the one as well as the other, so that man will not find out anything that will be after him.

Hebrews 13:17 (AMP)

Obey your [spiritual] leaders and submit to them [recognizing their authority over you], for they are keeping watch over your souls and continually guarding your spiritual welfare as those who will give an account [of their stewardship of you]. Let them do this with joy and not with grief and groans, for this would be of no benefit to you.

James 1:2 (AMP)

Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials.

James 4:9 (AMP)

Be miserable and grieve and weep [over your sin]. Let your [foolish] laughter be turned to mourning and your [reckless] joy to gloom.

James 5:13 (AMP)

Is anyone among you suffering? He must pray. Is anyone joyful? He is to sing praises [to God].
